The United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) and Migrant Media have donated £10,000 through the Legacy Fund to support the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund (NMPMFF) Holiday Scheme Initiative supporting children, young people and families.

The NMPMFF (developed in 2015) is the first permanent national resource of its kind specifically for those that are affected by deaths in custody and makes small grants available for families and their campaign groups across the United Kingdom to provide practical domestic assistance, to further the work of their own campaigns or to assist them in engaging in a range of other local, regional or national campaigns, events and initiatives.

The NMPMFF is also integrally involved with initiatives such as Red Alert HELP!, The United Families & Friends Campaign, Black Lives Matter UK, The People’s Tribunal on Police Killings, and others, all seeking to challenge injustice and influence structural change reform.

Ken Fero of Migrant Media said;

"The public awareness and support after the killing of George Floyd had strengthened this initiative which goes directly to improve the lives of families impacted by state violence in

the UK. We support this important grassroots initiative and urge others to join.

When the state fails us, the people must act"

Tippa Naphtali, founder of the NMPMFF said;

"The ongoing pain of affected families often gets lost in the equally important work of

campaigning and lobbying of the state. We are extremely grateful for the support of the

UFFC Legacy Fund which will help us launch one of our key aspirational initiatives"

The Family Fund Holiday Scheme Initiative

From the Spring of 2023 the NMPMFF will provide resourcing for respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays tailored for children, young people and families affected by custody deaths and killings. These will include river and coach tours, activity and theme parks, and self-catering breaks in some of the UK's areas of outstanding beauty. Read more >

Working closely with Family Contact Groups throughout the country, the NMPMFF will support a range of social activities that are requested, designed and delivered in UK-wide localities. Resources will be made available to these groups to help cover the costs of their respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays – some basic criteria and conditions would apply.
