Kaine Fletcher - Case Study

During the July 2025 inquest, the family were told that there would be no private space for them at the courthouse and also told to pay £60 a day for such a room.

They were initially forced to stand on the steps of the court to eat their lunch (to avoid seeing the jury in nearby restaurants), and they also had nowhere private to watch the very distressing body worn footage and in order to discuss the case in a private space with their lawyers.

Abigail Victoria Clare - Case Study

We were approached at an extremely sad and difficult time for this family following the loss of their loved one.

Equipment and resources were needed in order for them to set up Abigail's Army; Daisy Fund. The family also needed assistance to attend the 2-week inquest hearings for Abigail.

An additional grant was also offered to assist them during the Covid pandemic.

Lloyd Butler - Case Study

The parents of Lloyd Butler were deeply affected by the tragic and sudden loss of their 39 year old son, Lloyd, in August 2010.

We supported the family to improve the memorial garden dedicated to their son, visits to extended family, as well as urgent structural repairs that were needed to their home.

Lloyd's Mother said; "The support from the NMPMFF has brought such positivity into my life.”

Feedback By Some Grant Recipients!

September 2015
The birth of the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund followed the launch of a video and online Crowdfunder appeal in 2015.

Founder, Tippa Naphtali (cousin of Mikey Powell) said; "The needs of affected families often gets lost in the equally important work of campaigning and lobbying of the state.
We want to change that with a permanent fund set up specifically for their needs."

What we plan to do!

As well as our current funding programmes and gifting schemes, we also aspire to develop other initiatives that recognise and support affected families.
National Events Programme

In June 2020 we announced that the National Memorial Family Fund had appointed Catalyst 4 Change CIC to organise a series of national live music and arts events.

This had been made possible with a small part-funded grant from the Edge Fund together with our own investments.

Annual Gala Dinner & Awards

Led by 4WardEverUK, we had carefully planned to work with a range of other campaign and civil rights groups, individuals, charities and companies to launch the Annual Activists Awards & Gala Dinner.

Its principle aim is to recognise those affected families and individuals that have influenced structural change. Its secondary purpose is to raise the profile of, and resources for the Family Fund's support programmes.

The inaugural event took place in late 2023, also coinciding with the 40th birthday of the charity INQUEST, and the 20th year since the killing of Mikey Powell in police custody.
