"We plan what we do, and do what we say"

The Fund is already making a significant and practical difference to families and their campaign groups that need financial and wellbeing support during their long struggles for justice lasting decades in many cases.

The Fund was developed and constituted in conjunction with the Friends of Mikey Powell Campaign, The United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) and Migrant Media. Organisers also acknowledged the late campaigner, Pauline Campbell, who died in May 2008.

NMPMFF Annual Report for 2021-2022

Inaugural NMPMFF Annual Report for 2021-2022

We were very proud to present our first full annual report of our activities between 2021 and 2022.

The 1 September 2022 had marked 7 years since the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund was founded, and just over 2 years since its first ever funding round.

Founder, Tippa Naphtali, said;

"We are the only organisation nationally that occupies this space, and are therefore absolutely unique and bespoke."

A key supporter of the NMPMFF, Ken Fero of award winning Migrant Media said;

"The public awareness and donor support after the 2020 killing of George Floyd in the United States had strengthened this initiative which improves the lives of families impacted by state violence in the UK. We support this important grassroots initiative and urge others to join. When the state fails us, the people must act in unity."

NMPMFF Annual Report for 2022-2023

NMPMFF presents its Annual Report for the period 2022-2023

We were proud to present our second full annual report of our activities between 2022 and 2023.

This was a particularly productive period for the NMPMFF, with two significant national events held. But we also saw the sad loss of Benjamin Zephaniah who was a cousin of Mikey Powell.

Founder, Tippa Naphtali, said;

"This report covers the most significant of the positive, whilst also being realistic about some of the challenges and hurdles ahead. We are steadfast in our efforts to maintain this important work.”

Back in April 2021 we announced ambitious plans for the future. This report also provides details of what the Fund was able to achieve with the grant aid, donations and voluntary input we have received, as well as several significant developments over the preceding years, and our continued work against our 5-year plan.

Feedback By Some Grant Recipients!

  • "I would like to thank the Fund on behalf of my family. We used the money to host a family get-together over the festive period to remember our loved ones. We are inspired by your charity - What you've achieved is tremendous"

  • "Thanks for your generosity and helping us with Jack's Living Memorial, and the five children in Bali who'll benefit from the funds received. It has brought his spirit close to us, and we know he would be very proud this is happening in his name"

  • "The funding has helped us to set up the UNGRIPP campaign website. We hope this will help us to push for change and is in memory of my brother, Tommy. We can't thank you enough for the funding that helped this to become possible"

  • "To all that made it possible for the donation that I received from the Family Fund - thank you. It has been put to good use. I badly needed new memorial garden fencing before the winter arrived. it's now been delivered and put in place"

    Jan Butler, Mother of Lloyd Butler

  • "Thanks to the Family Fund for its financial support at such a difficult time. Funds went towards buying much-needed carpets - campaigning for so long, I neglected my home. I also received a grant towards my book on Christopher's case"

    Janet Alder, sister of Christopher Alder

  • "The grant helped to pay bills that I'd fallen behind with due to the death of my son, and not being able to work. The grant was extremely useful and enabled my family breathing space and not having the debt distraction. We are very grateful"
