With thanks to a previous donation of £10,000 from the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) and Migrant Media (through the Legacy Fund), the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund (NMPMFF) is poised to launch the Holiday Scheme Initiative in the Spring/Summer of 2023 supporting children, young people and families.

Families and campaigns will apply to a designated fund which will:

  • Award fixed-amount grants for group outings/holidays and short breaks in the UK
  • Consider group applications made up of minimum pre-set number of adults and children/young people
  • Ensure applicant groups are not all from a single family/campaign
  • Encourage participation jointly with other families/campaigns in their region
  • Include NMPMFF Assessment Partners as eligible applicants

The NMPMFF is also integrally involved with initiatives such as Red Alert HELP!, The United Families & Friends Campaign, Black Lives Matter UK, The People’s Tribunal on Police Killings, and others, all seeking to challenge injustice and influence structural change reform.

Ken Fero of Migrant Media said;

"The public awareness and support after the killing of George Floyd had strengthened this initiative which goes directly to improve the lives of families impacted by state violence in

the UK. We support this important grassroots initiative and urge others to join.

When the state fails us, the people must act"

Tippa Naphtali, founder of the NMPMFF said;

"The ongoing pain of affected families often gets lost in the equally important work of

campaigning and lobbying of the state. We are extremely grateful for the support of the

UFFC Legacy Fund which will help us launch one of our key aspirational initiatives"

The Family Fund Holiday Scheme Initiative

From the Spring of 2023 the NMPMFF will provide resourcing for respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays tailored for children, young people and families affected by custody deaths and killings. These will include river and coach tours, activity and theme parks, and self-catering breaks in some of the UK's areas of outstanding beauty. Read more >

Working closely with Family Contact Groups throughout the country, the NMPMFF will consider applications for a range of social activities that are requested, designed and delivered by the applicants in UK-wide localities. Resources will be made available to successful applicants to help cover the costs of their respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays.

Some basic criteria and conditions would apply.
