We are proud to present our third full annual report of our activities between 2025 and 2026. September 2025 marked 10 years since the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund (NMPMFF) was founded, and just over 5 years since our
first ever funding round.
The Fund is the first national resource of its kind for those affected by deaths and abuses in state custody, making small grants available for families and their campaign groups across the UK to provide practical domestic assistance, to further the work of their own campaigns or assist them to engage in local, regional or national campaigns, events and initiatives.
We do this work because the needs of affected families often gets lost in the equally important work of campaigning and lobbying of the state. Our services are specifically for their needs.
We stand by our
ambitious plans for the future. Partnerships and collaboration continue to be at the heart of our organisation. Without it we would not be able deliver on our broader mission of support for affected families.
In the period covered by this report we have partnered or collaborated with the Benjamin Zephaniah Family Legacy Group, Birmingham Irish Association, The People’s Tribunal on Police Killings, 4WardEverUK, Naphtali & Associates, Black Thrive Haringey, INQUEST and others.
The report highlights:
- Core project funding and donations that were raised
- Grants and awards provided to affected families
- The 'Shine the Light' Birmingham event
- Launch of the Therapy Care Initiative
- Plans for the Annual Gala Dinner & Awards 2026
- Our new family Case Studies developed in 2025
- Memorial events held for Mikey Powell and Benjamin Zephaniah
The report also sets out our income & expenditure for 2025-2026, an update on our Work Plan and a summary of our partners, collaborators and donors.
The Fund continues
to make a practical difference to numerous families and their campaign groups that need financial and wellbeing support during their long struggles for justice lasting decades in many cases. Over the life of the Fund we have supported over 200 families across the United Kingdom.
It is our absolute and undivided commitment that this work should be continued indefinitely, and will maintain our momentum in this respect.
