This initiative is made up of a series of nationwide live film, music and arts events. It was first made possible with a small part funded grant from the Edge Fund together with our own and key partner investments.
They will also be made up of FREE family-only attendance, pay-to-attend public events, topic-based conferences and seminars, often in partnership with third parties.
We plan to grow the initiative through grant funding, sponsorship, gifts-in-kind and monthly or other one-off donors.
The very first of these events, 'Looking Back, Moving Forward', took place on 10 September 2021 marking the 18th anniversary of the death of Mikey Powell in police custody, and celebrated 6 years of the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund.
The second event,
'Families Matter : Caring Matters', took place on 27 May 2023 and was a free family only entertainment, socialising pampering event for those affected by deaths in custody. It consisted of a 3-course meal and beverages, pamper zones, arts & wellbeing stalls, resident DJ and local performing artists.
We occasionally manage small grants on behalf of the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) such as their Gift Fund or campaigning projects funding programmes.
